How to Secure a Load?

Essential Steps on How to Secure a Load

  • After the shipper finished loading your truck, inspect for any damages (keep a close eye to Hazmat Loads). Take pictures of the damages and do not leave the facility until your Dispatch Manager has given you full instructions.
  • Once loaded, ensure that the load is properly secured with straps and or load bars BEFORE leaving. You never leave straps inside the trailer.
  • Always take a picture showing that the load is appropriately secured and send it to your dispatcher. Placards must be appropriately positioned on all sides of your trailer, and your paperwork includes emergency handling information.
  • All Hazmat loads must be padlocked. Should your load require a seal, please ensure it is appropriately placed and noted on your bill of lading.
  • After confirming your load is secured correctly, ALWAYS place a seal on the right-hand door. The only exception to the rule is when the customer provides a seal on their own.
  • Upon arrival at consignee, DO NOT break the seal on your trailer event if they ask you to do so. Politely request that they break the seal themselves and require they note your Bill of Lading SEAL INTACT. This is important in the event of shortages or damages. SEAL INTACT is our “insurance policy” in case of shortages.

When hauling totes, ensure that each piece is strapped.

Do not use bars.

Totes must be loaded in a checkerboard pattern (up to 12 totes in a 53 ft trailer).
