What's Next After Your Truck is Loaded?

You are planning your next trip, making sure that you have all the paperwork, directions, and permits.

  1. Text or call your dispatcher to confirm you have received dispatch information
Make sure you have addresses, phone numbers and appointment times for both shippers and receivers and all of your l
  2. ALWAYS call shipper and receiver for directions. Your GPS is only for reference. DO NOT follow it blindly. Always carry an atlas and map out your trips ahead of time. GPS will get you in trouble. We see it happen all too often. Plan! Always know the mileage for your loads, breaking down miles according to your driving hours will help you build an action plan.
  3. Check in with your dispatcher once you arrive at the shipper. If you are not loaded within 2 hours of arriving/appointment, you need to let your dispatcher know. The time of arrival and departure has to be annotated on the Bill. You are not authorized to handle freight in any capacity. You may not assist the customer in loading or unloading freight. It is not a question of courtesy. Driver handling of cargo is a significant liability and therefore prohibited by our insurance carrier. The same protocol applies to unload.
  4. READ ALL PAPERWORK PROVIDED BY SHIPPER BEFORE SIGNING – Keep an eye out for tailgating.
  5. If the pickup number that your dispatcher provided is incorrect, ask the shipper for what the pickup number should start with.
  6. After the truck is loaded, inspect for any damages (keep a close eye to Hazmat Loads). Once loaded, ensure the load is appropriately secured with straps and or load bars BEFORE leaving.
  7. Always scale loads heavier than 30K lbs. You MUST scale within the first 50 miles after leaving the shipper. This ensures a safe and legal return to the customer, should you be unable to adjust axle weight by sliding or in the event you are over the allowed gross weight.
  8. When traveling to Idaho, it is essential to check the map before your journey. Idaho requires permits when going the blue and green routes (as shown below on map). It is your responsibility to contact ahead of time, your Safety Manager (safety@logilexinc.com), or Dispatch Manager to obtain a physical permit.
